Today, I talked with Olimpio Grieco, one of the proprietors of the company that does our yard work, about removing those trees.
The conversation became much more interesting than I'd expected, because Olimpio pointed at one of the trees we were talking about and said, "I planted that tree." He said that he planted it shortly after the Kelly's moved in (which would have been in 1987, according to the county website).
I asked him if he'd planted the crabapple tree, because another tree service had told me that they had a lifespan of ten to fifteen years. "No," he said, "that's an old tree." It's been there as long as he's been working on the yard--and he's been working on the yard since 1961. (I'm sure that this news will make Lori sad about the prospect of removing that tree. Or perhaps I should say "sadder".)
